Learn more about the women of Fling!

Fling recently competed in the Region 8 competition and improved their score 42 points from last year!

They are a
barbershop quartet made up of members of the High Country and Velvet Hills Choruses. Fling loves to perform and enjoys being out of the box.  They have performed at the Denver Botanic gardens, installation cermonies, birthday parties, work parties, picnics, on chapter shows and is willing and able to work up a program for your event.

Gail works in the plastics industry and didn't sing for many years after high school (Which the rest of us say is a darn shame!). She is a barbershop brat and animal lover.   She volunteers at the Colorado Humane Society and is a representative of the Lollipop Guild (115 local).  Gail is the mother of three daughters…O.K. cats!   She’s an avid reader of HOT trashy romance novels which she shares with her Sweet Adeline sisters.  Gail’s dream trip consists of a Mexican beach vacation in which she’s served frozen drinks by a hot cabana boy.  HEY, it could happen!

Jamie is happy to be singing with her best friend (on whose coat tails she hopes to ride to a crown). Jamie is a happily single mom, intuitive and Titanic fanatic (the ship not the movie).

But wait, there’s more… She sang in the Colorado Chorale and found barbershop after many years of not singing (thanks in part to getting married and divorced, having a child and oh yeah, *sniff* the scars of friends Chris and Tony who told her repeatedly in High School that she couldn’t sing.)

Singing in a chorus and competitive quartet wasn't enought for Jamie so she is a dual member with Velvet Hills Chorus out of Colorado Springs.  She believes that the drive is worth it and feels privileged to be competing under the direction of Kathy Carmody.  Jamie just completed her fourth term as High Country Team Leader.

The real juice about Jamie is that she sees and hears dead people and actually talks back to them (not in a smart allecky kind of way…okay sometimes…but most everything Jamie does is kind of smart allecky).  She is one of the founding members of Colorado Paranormal Research and would love to make her living as a Sweet Adeline coach/performer and in metaphysics (ghost hunting).  (Two things which don’t necessarily go hand-in (jazz) hand.)

Susie has a degree in music education K-12 and has performed with various music groups in the Denver area. In younger days Susie made her living as a professional musician playing the string bass in a South Carolina orchestra.  She has worked at the same company for 23 years and wants desperately to retire to the desert soon.  Susie has one adult daughter with whom she enjoys travelling.  Susie also enjoys gambling, reading, and computer games.

Linda is an elementary school teacher, married to a mechanical engineer and has four kids.  She enjoys excercise (really), chocolate and in earlier days Linda was a swim coach, so is very familiar with sun-rise. Linda has now performed twice on the contest stage with Fling and is getting more and more comfortable with the contest experience.

All of Fling is inspired by quartets and choruses who have the drive and desire to succeed and the willingness to put themselves “out there”. They especially love A Cappella Gold and gain a lot of inspiration from their personality and wicked awesome singing.  Fling is grateful to their awesome coaching team including Sylvia Alsbury, Cindy Hansen-Ellis and especially the amazing Kathy Carmody.

The group consists of a teacher, a representative of a high tech industry and two high school friends (Gail and Jamie) who attended Green Mountain High School and sang together in the women's audition show choir, Images.

Fling relies heavily on Susie's awesome ear to catch wrong notes, intonation problems, pathagorian tuning and more. She is an amazing addition to the quartet.  The quartet also relies on(well, not so much relies on as enjoys laughing at) Susie’s victory dance and her Nell and Mrs. Miller impersonations.
